Outreach

On any given day our experienced mental health professionals are roving around St. Louis handling phone calls, meeting people in city courts, homeless shelters, on the streets, and almost any other place imaginable.

Sometimes, we’re simply building relationships with people who have little reason to trust us – often because they are dealing with complex problems.  Sometimes, it’s simply having the right information or a referral – other times, we may provide triage, therapy, intensive case management or help people access emergency housing.

Here are some of the ways we serve St. Louis:

  • Conducting mental health assessments on the streets and in city/county shelters and referring people to services, both at CA and elsewhere
  • Follow-up case management after a mental health crisis involving the police
  • Drug Court – case management/therapy for those who have substance abuse  problems and co-occurring mental illness or trauma
  • Jail Diverson – case management and therapy for those who have legal problems related to mental health in order to keep them out of jail
  •  Identify and move people under public legal guardianship to lower levels of institutional care, based on their functioning levels – this increases quality of life and reduces public cost

In all of these services, our goal is to help people access the appropriate resources they need to live in the community, while reducing the cost burden on the public.
